7-Day Halal Itinerary for Kuala Lumpur and Penang

This sample plan pairs the capital with Penang, the island known for street food and heritage. It leaves room for the five daily prayers, uses mosques and malls with prayer rooms as natural stops, and keeps travel between the two cities simple (a short flight, or about five to six hours by road).

Days 1 to 2: Kuala Lumpur

Spend the first day in the city centre: the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park, then the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and the National Mosque nearby. Surau and prayer rooms are inside the big malls, so lunch and Zuhr are easy to combine. On day two, try Bukit Bintang for shopping and an evening food street; check each stall for the halal logo. See the Kuala Lumpur listings.

Day 3: Putrajaya and the Putra Mosque

Putrajaya, the federal administrative capital, is about 40 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. Visit the pink-domed Putra Mosque by the lake, the Iron Mosque, and the Putrajaya waterfront, ideally in the late afternoon when it is cooler. See Putrajaya.

Day 4: Day trip or travel to Penang

Choose a half-day trip from Kuala Lumpur (for example the day trips from KL) or head to Penang. Fly from KLIA or Subang to Penang (about an hour), or take the train or a coach.

Days 5 to 6: George Town and the island

George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage city. Walk the old streets, see the Kapitan Keling Mosque and the Acheh Street Mosque, and try Penang's famous hawker dishes at halal-certified stalls or Muslim-owned shops. On day six head to the beach side of the island, Penang Hill or the Batu Ferringhi night market. See Penang.

Day 7: Souvenirs and departure

Pick up local snacks and fruit, make your last prayers at a mosque, and head to the airport. Check the practical information for plugs, SIM cards and transport apps.
