Masjid Zahir, Alor Setar
One of the OLDEST and grandest mosques in Malaysia! Built in 1912 and inspired by the Azizi Mosque in Sumatra, Masjid Zahir's five large black domes represent the five pillars of Islam. Moorish arches, ornate carvings and a tranquil garden setting have earned it a place among the world's most beautiful mosques. It remains the ceremonial heart of Kedah and hosts the state Quran recitation festival.
