Local Fruits

The world's largest tree-borne fruit — a single one can weigh 30kg! Inside are dozens of firm, chewy golden pods tasting of banana, mango and pineapple at once. Eaten fresh, blended into ais kacang, or cooked young in curries. You'll see them wrapped in bags hanging from trees all over rural Malaysia.

  A ribbed, intensely sour Garcinia fruit sliced and sun-dried into asam keping — the tangy dried discs used across Malaysian cooking to sour curries and gravies instead of tamarind.
